The City & Guilds International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a comprehensive pre-university pathway that prepares international learners for successful progression to undergraduate study worldwide. Delivered at GEMS Pathways and accredited by City & Guilds, the programme bridges prior school qualifications with the academic expectations of leading global universities.

The IFP combines subject-specific knowledge with English for Academic Purposes (EAP), digital literacy, and mathematical proficiency. Its academic framework is aligned with the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Characteristics Statement for International Pathway Courses, ensuring learners develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to thrive in diverse higher education environments.

Strictly aligned with the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) Level 3, the qualification is evaluated as equivalent to three standard UK A-Levels. On successful completion of the 180-credit programme, graduates hold the verifiable academic maturity recognised by ECCTIS (UK ENIC) for global credit transfers and established university progression routes.

Two pathways are offered: the Sciences Pathway (for Engineering, Medicine, Biological Sciences, and Advanced Technology) and the Humanities, Business & Applied Studies Pathway (for Business, Law, Humanities, and the Arts).

A minimum of six subjects at any given time: three mandatory core modules plus electives selected according to your chosen pathway.

Each module is graded on a 50 / 30 / 20 weighting: a final external theory examination (50%), continuous internal assignments/Practicals(30%), and a Capstone Project (20%).

Theoretical coursework can be completed through a hybrid/blended pathway via the LMS. However, all laboratory practicals, workshops, mid-cycle exams, and final assessments must be completed on-campus.
